Thailand Educators Network (TEN) moved into the world of corporate social responsibility and the need to communicate values to and through our young…

An interesting night, long-time Bangkok resident and CSR expert Alex Mavro led us into this important social concern and how educators can assume a leading role…

“Responsibility; sustainability; values – these are not subjects to be taught on their own, but rather woven into the tapestry of traditional core topics,” he suggested, and with many wondering how the economy will be organized following the current downturn, “educators have the final say, in the end. The values we instill – not the rote learning or the technical skills – will determine the shape of the future.”

Alex went on to explain how teachers should explicitly address the challenge of conveying these values, and not to simply assume they would materialize during the course of normal class activity.

Concluding with comments about eco-schools being trialed at the secondary level throughout Thailand, with full government support, Alex concluded by suggesting that, “they are the kinds of lessons that should protect coming generations from repeating the errors that lead to the current economic crisis.
